We have just returned from a fantastic four days at Meadow Lake. Three Madhatters (DD, Davey and Danny Jones and myself) and Kaptain Kurt from the Forresthill Club ran the the Thursday short wheelbase run and as usual it was extremely challenging. We left the trailhead at 7:00 AM and reached the top of Winch Hill #5 about 7:05 PM. A long but fun 12 hour day on the trail. Besides a few scratches, the only significant damage was a bent tierod on Kurt’s Jeep, which was promptly repaired on the trail and he was able to complete the run with no further problems. Greg Price and Mike Navonne ran the down and back river run on Saturday and they also completed it without any problems and had a good time.
As usual, the Madhatters did a great job running the raffle. I received numerous compliments from Cal 4-Wheel officers and several paid participants at the event. We raffled off nearly 90 prizes and raised nearly $9500 for the Association. This was a huge accomplishment, considering the attendance was as low as anyone could remember. The weather was great and we had a great campsite in the trees along the lakeshore and many stories were shared around the campfire while enjoying some adult beverages. I will post some pictures later and we will have more reports at this month’s meeting.
In closing I just wanted to say that Carmen and I had a great time and I want to thank Scott and Jill Caster for doing a great job chairing the raffle and all of the Madhatter Members who helped at the event. Everybody did a great job and I am proud to be a part of this great club.
